A second cyclist fell into the Zenne in Zemst on Tuesday, the second in as many months. Last February, a 25-year-old woman died after falling into the river from the cycle path.

Following the second incident, the Mayor of Zemst has called for a faster evaluation of the dangerous points on the path.

The first woman was cycling home from a party when she fell down the path and went missing. After three weeks, her body was recovered after three weeks.

On Tuesday, the woman who fell in was able to be saved, as some people passing by saw her fall and helped to pull her out of the river.

The people formed a human chain to get her out of the freezing water. She suffered some cuts and was hypothermic but is expected to make a full recovery. According to her social media, she thanked the people who pulled her out.

The mayor, Veerle Geerinckx, plans to evaluate the danger points along the path as quickly as possible and is thinking about closing the bike path for the time being to prevent this from happening again.
