Forty sheep and fifty-five lambs perished in a barn fire that broke out overnight in My in the Liège region (Wallonia), according to local firefighters and authorities.

Emergency services were alerted and responded shortly before 04:00 on Wednesday to the agricultural facility located at Sur le Mont in the village of My, in Ferrières.

A violent blaze had erupted in the barn. The wooden structure was completely destroyed, and all the animals inside were killed.

"We do not know the cause of the fire. The challenge today will be removing the numerous carcasses before their disposal by a specialised company," stated Mayor Christian Verdin to the Belga News Agency.
