A STIB driver's death on Sunday led to an upsurge in health safety claims among his colleagues. The man had been diagnosed with the new coronavirus.
Some 50 STIB drivers paid tribute to their colleague on Wednesday and requested commitments on protective measures, including the installation of plexiglass or tarpaulins to hermetically seal their drivers' and ramping up vehicle disinfection.

Even though the link between the STIB driver's death and the new coronavirus (Covid-19) has not yet been officially established, the STIB said it was examining the possibility of organising an internal screening campaign to reassure its employees.
STIB spokesperson An Van Hamme argued that it was too soon to expect progress at Thursday's monthly CPPT meeting. She referred for driver protective measures to an already signed memorandum of understanding, noting that the follow-up regarding those measures has been entrusted to working groups.
