A fire broke out on Tuesday in a warehouse in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, the Brussels Fire Brigade reported.
Brussels Fire Brigade, the 112 medical emergency services and the Brussels West police zone were called to a fire in a warehouse (storing mainly furniture), the brigade's spokesperson Walter Derieuw confirmed.
"Upon arrival, the fire was fully developed," he said. "This resulted in an immediate increase in the number of resources deployed. The 'Internal Red Plan' was triggered as well as a pre-alert of the medical intervention plan."

The courtyard is completely surrounded by houses, between Rue des Quatre-Vents, Rue Delaunoy, Rue Vanderdussen and Rue de Courtrai. The fire brigade therefore had difficulty reaching the hangar to extinguish the fire.
"We used four turntable ladders and three aerial ladders. The latter enabled us to extinguish the fire from above the courtyard," Derieuw said. "Thanks to our rapid and massive intervention, the spread to the houses was avoided."

By around 12:30, the fire was under control, however, firefighters were still extinguishing the last flames and removing debris around 15:00.
No one was injured. However, the warehouse itself is completely damaged and partially collapsed. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
