Five people were injured during a house fire in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode overnight on Sunday, Brussels fire brigade confirmed. The property is now uninhabitable.

Injured parties include a mother and her two children. All five victims were rushed to hospital after inhaling smoke.

The blaze began at around 00:40 on the first floor of a residence on Rue de Liedekerke. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had significantly escalated. Five people were evacuated from the second floor and the attic.

"They were taken to hospital with mild smoke inhalation," clarified fire services spokesperson Walter Derieuw. "A local Brussels North Zone police inspector was also treated onsite for smoke inhalation."

While the fire was eventually extinguished, the undwelled house has been sealed off by Sibelga.

The source of the fire remains undetermined.

The Mayor of Saint-Josse, Emir Kir, visited the scene to coordinate the relocation of those affected, Derieuw added.
