Up to 10,000 employees of the Flemish Government and local authorities will soon have access to Microsoft’s AI assistant for their work.
Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele (N-VA) announced the agreement with the American technology company in Davos, Switzerland.
The Flemish Government plans to finalise a contract for 10,000 licenses of Microsoft’s AI platform, Copilot.
A detailed verbal agreement was reached during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The four-year contract only needs final approval from the government. The contract’s value has not been disclosed.
Microsoft stated that this is the largest Copilot government contract in Europe to date.
According to the Prime Minister, the combined contract for Flemish and local authorities offers economies of scale and administrative simplification.
The implementation will be phased and customised to each government service to determine where AI can be beneficial.
Prime Minister Diependaele’s office indicated significant automation potential, aiming for more efficient and faster processing of documents.
