Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Prévot (Les Engagés) and Defence Minister Theo Francken (N-VA) arrived in Munich (Germany) on Friday for the security conference.

Throughout the weekend, some 100 politicians will be discussing the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, among other issues.

The Munich Security Conference (MSC) was founded in 1963. It is an annual forum where heads of government and ministers responsible for defence, foreign affairs or other security-related topics can exchange ideas.

US Vice-President JD Vance is among the attendees, as are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Belgium's Maxime Prévot is due to meet his fellow foreign ministers. "The geopolitical challenges and ongoing conflicts underline the need for strong diplomacy," said Prévot. "Belgium remains committed to dialogue and cooperation to contribute to global stability and security."

Theo Francken, meanwhile, took to X to confirm he had already held talks on Euro-Atlantic security with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and former US Secretary of Defence James Mattis. "We need to speed up our collective defence," Francken noted.
