Colruyt Group has transformed 39 Match and Smatch stores into the temporary Comarché brand, two months after the conversions began, according to a company statement on Monday. Other supermarkets will be changed into Spar or another of the group’s brands soon.
Over an eight-week period, the 39 redesigned stores transitioned to Comarché at a pace of five per week. Approximately 120 additional staff were employed as part of this transition, with around ten originating from Match and Smatch logistics centres.
However, this rebranding process is only temporary; all stores will eventually align with one of the Colruyt Group brands within the next three years.
In addition to the 39 supermarkets under the Comarché banner, the company revealed that six franchised stores will soon be converted into Spar (including those located in Vaux-sur-Sûre, Wanfercée-Baulet and Bertogne).
Talks are ongoing about converting a seventh store into a Spar, while another seven (including those in Gembloux, Saint-Gilles and Chimay) will close for an extended period before re-opening under one of the group’s brands (Bio-Planet, Colruyt, Cru or Okay).
To conclude, the acquisition of 54 Match and Smatch stores has led to the integration of 955 new employees into Colruyt Group.
