Ten people, including seven children, were saved from a fire by emergency workers in the Brussels commune of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode on Friday night.
All of the victims were taken to hospital but none of them are in a life-threatening condition, the Brussels fire brigade said on Saturday.
The fire broke out at around 22:00 in the kitchen of a third-floor flat in a five-storey building on Rue de l’Artichaut in Saint-Josse.
Upon arrival, firefighters evacuated two families — consisting of seven people — using a ladder. Three other people were brought to safety via the building’s stairwell.

The firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. However, the flames have made two apartments uninhabitable, at least temporarily. Six residents have since been taken in for care by the municipality of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.
“Ten people, including seven children, were affected by the smoke and taken to hospital for treatment,” said Walter Derieuw, a spokesperson for the fire brigade.
“The premises were ventilated while the presence of carbon monoxide was checked, after which the other residents were able to return to their flats. The electricity was however cut off in the building,” he added.
