Colruyt has started home deliveries with its Collect&Go service in five Brussels communes under a pilot project that will continue until autumn, the supermarket chain announced on Tuesday. The project covers Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Crainhem, Wezembeek-Oppem and Sterrebeek.
A market survey by the Colruyt group showed that some Collect&Go clients would be interested in having their purchases delivered to their homes. This, the clients felt, would save time and make things easier for them. As a result, the group launched the home delivery service, on a small scale, “in order to go towards our clients and better meet their expectations,” the company said.
The five communes selected for the test phase were chosen for two reasons: their closeness to Colruyt’s distribution centre at Zaventem, and the interest shown by their residents for such a service.
The deliveries are made by Collect&Go staff driving trucks powered by compressed natural gas, with an eye to sustainable transport. “The vehicles give off less CO2 and fine particles than gas or diesel engines,” the company said.
Home deliveries cost 9.90 euros, plus the standard service fee of 5.50 euros for preparing the purchases, as in the pick-up points.
Deliveries are made from 4.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and from 8.00 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays. Customers can choose their delivery times, as is the case at the pick-up points, and they pay on delivery.
