Belgian music artist Angèle made a surprise appearance at the Olympic Games closing ceremony in Paris on Sunday night.

As the game came to a climactic close yesterday evening in the French capital, the star of Bruxelles Je T'Aime had the honour of performing in front of the millions of television viewers around the world who tuned into the closing ceremony.

The Brussels-born artist joined French producer Kavinsky for a unique performance of the track 'Nightcall’. She was invited by the French band Phoenix, who also put on a special performance as one of France's most internationally renowned bands.

"I don't have the words to thank Phoenix for inviting me to perform with them and Kavinsky at the closing ceremony," Angèle said after the performance. "I never thought I'd have such an incredible experience one day - and surrounded by the greatest sportsmen and women from all over the world."

The video has already surpassed the 500,000 views mark on YouTube, making the rounds of the international press.

Another French music artist who impressed on the night was Zaho de Sagazan, who opened the show from the Jardin des Tuileries with a cover of Édith Piaf's classic Sous le ciel de Paris.

The 24-year old singer is one of France's most remarkable rising stars after releasing her album, La symphonie des éclairs, and will be playing at the ING Arena in Brussels on 24 November.
