French film star Gérard Depardieu is facing an 18-month suspended prison sentence in a sexual assault case brought against him in Paris.
The prosecutor is also demanding a fine of €20,000 and compensation for the victims. Furthermore, several conditions are to be attached to the suspension.
These include mandatory psychological treatment, a two-year removal of legal rights, and registration on the sex offenders list.
The sentence requested is lower than the maximum five-year penalty Depardieu could have faced. The hearing will continue on Thursday with the defence’s arguments.
The 76-year-old actor is on trial for sexually inappropriate behaviour involving two women on the set of ‘Les Volets Verts’ in 2021. He allegedly groped a set decorator’s buttocks, breasts, and genitals.
An assistant director also accuses him of sexual assault and harassment on the film set.
