Fifteen Belgian beers among medallists at Beer World Cup

Fifteen Belgian beers were rewarded at the World Cup of Beer Sommeliers, with four even leaving the event with gold medals in their respective categories.

Organised in Munich in the run-up to Oktoberfest in Germany, the event features tastings of over 2,000 beers by a jury of 140 experts. The winners were unveiled on Thursday.

Belgium's medal haul was earmarked by four victories. The Oude Gueuze Cuvée René from the Lindemans brewery, the Hellekapelle from the De Bie brewery in the Flemish municipality of Dentergem received gold medals.

Furthermore, La Paix Dieu, from the Hainaut brewery Caulier, was crowned the best triple and the Hapkin, from Alken-Maes, was named the best Belgian-style strong blonde.

Among the other medallists was the Palm brewery, now owned by the Dutch group Swinkels Family, who took home three medals, including a bronze for its Rodenbach beer.
