A man was arrested on Saturday evening near Plopsaland in De Panne where the Miss Belgium final was taking place.
The man, aged about 40, had a gun in his possession and a second one was found in his vehicle.
Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden also confirmed this via Twitter.
According to initial reports, the suspect was identified after police in Limburg picked up a disturbing message in which the individual told his girlfriend he was going to commit an attack.
The suspected man is from Lommel, Belga has learned from a trusted source.
Police were able to apprehend the suspect, whose motives remain unknown. They then deployed extra security in the vicinity of the venue, and carried out systematic checks.
Despite the threat and the arrest, the Miss Belgium ceremony continued as scheduled.
