Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden has directed federal police to increase patrols in Antwerp and Brussels to increase the protection of Jewish institutions.
The deployment boost reflects heightened vigilance due to the risk of escalating tensions from the situation in the Middle East.
The decision was taken following a threat assessment by OCAM and operational measures requested by the Crisis Centre.
Despite this, the terror threat level remains at 3 out of 4 for both the country and the Jewish community.
The implementation of additional patrols will be managed by the federal police in collaboration with local police forces.
