The major Belgian coastline cleaning operation, the 'Eneco Clean Beach Cup', is set to take place on Sunday 24 March this year.
Last year, the operation resulted in five tonnes of waste collected. For this 15th edition, the Windekind surf club in Coxyde will serve as the main gathering point. Thousands of volunteers are expected to attend.
"It is always uplifting to see the event draw in many individuals committed to cleaner beaches and oceans," stated Sven Fransen, the surfer who initiated the event.
Festivities including concerts, beach games, and educational projects will be organised to enrich the event.
Volunteers are invited to gather at Coxyde and other participating locations from La Panne to Cadzand in the Netherlands from 13:00 on 24 March. The total amount of collected waste and the number of participants will be revealed during a closing ceremony at Coxyde at the end of the day.
