Businesses operating in Brussels can now apply for an energy premium that will compensate 30% of the additional costs incurred in 2022 due to rising energy bills.
Companies can apply for the premium until 15 September via a form from the capital's electricity and gas operator Sibelga. This will calculate the difference in energy bill costs between 2021 to 2022.
Once determined, the Brussels government will pay 30% of the additional gas and energy costs to companies that registered a turnover of between €50,000 and €100,000 depending on their size.
The government has, however, set a maximum of €50,000 in compensation for businesses in a so-called energy-sensitive sector and €100,000 for those in a so-called very energy-sensitive sector.

The financial aid had been in place since March but used to only be eligible to companies that were already in possession of their invoices, excluding those receiving their energy bills between 1 July and 31 December.
This changed on Monday when Brussels Secretary of State for Economic Transition Barbara Trachte announced that all eligible companies were now able to apply.
Moreover, Trachte reminded businesses that two other energy bonuses are available for businesses, which will lessen the burden of energy consumption on those looking to invest in more energy-efficient equipment. These aids have also been extended until 11 September.
