Climate activists disguised as tourists glued themselves on Friday to the speaker’s chair in the British House of Commons.
According to Extinction Rebellion, about 50 people were involved in the “nonviolent action.”
The group said three activists went on a tour of the building and managed to glue themselves around the chair. After this, they gave a speech in support of a citizens’ meeting to do something about the climate. They also called on the British authorities to take more action.
Extinction Rebellion posted a photo on Twitter showing the three activists holding hands. Two other members of the group held placards with the messages: “Let the people decide” and “Citizens assembly now”.
Another two protestors used bicycle locks to chain themselves to the front gate at the entrance to the New Palace Yard at the Palace of Westminister.
“We are facing a terrible climate crisis and a massive cost-of-living crisis. The political system is not working,” said one of the activists.
