Another explosion outside boxing club rocks Antwerp province

Antwerp has been hit by another explosive attack in the early hours of Thursday night, this time outside a boxing club in Mortsel. This follows the two separate bomb incidents from the day before in the province of the port city.

"A boxing club’s façade in Mortsel, Antwerp province, was severely damaged by an overnight blast, triggering a police investigation," the Antwerp Prosecutor’s Office has reported.

The incident occurred around 04:00 in the morning. It is believed that unidentified individuals hurled an explosive device at the building, located on Krijgsbaan, scattering debris from the front door and windows onto the street.

The prosecutor’s office has assigned an investigating judge to the case. The judicial laboratory and the army’s demining service (DOVO-SEDEE) have attended the scene to carry out the usual investigations.

The inquiry aims to ascertain whether the incident is related to the thriving drug milieu around the port city and if it ties in with two other explosions that occurred on Tuesday night to Wednesday in Hove and the Antwerp district of Borgerhout.
