Walibi, one of Belgium's largest theme parks, unveiled its new 'Mecalodon' rollercoaster to park officials during an event on Thursday during a showcase of 'Dock World', a new area of the park set to open in 2025.

The rollercoaster is part of a €35 million investment in the park, which aims to revitalise various rides and provide a new experience for visitors.

Walibi says that Mecalodon will be the largest "family rollercoaster" in the Benelux region (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands). It will boast a track length of 925 metres and have cars shaped like mechanical sharks.

Since 2016, the park has been undergoing a gradual overhaul, dividing its attractions into distinct themed worlds. The new Dock World area will immerse visitors in an industrial port environment.

The Mecalodon cars, designed like mechanical sharks, will take passengers on a 925-metre ride skimming over water, with three propulsion launches and 14 airtime moments.

Dock World will also rejuvenate classic attractions such as 'Flash Back' and 'Psyké Underground' with a new industrial theme in celebration of Walibi's 50th anniversary.

Two children's attractions, 'Dragon Boat' (to be renamed 'Stormy') and 'Salsa y Fiesta' (to be renamed 'Tous en boîte'), will also receive thematic updates.

A central hall for shopping will also be added, along with a restaurant, café and a 15-metre lighthouse named 'Port du Wavre' as a landmark and tribute.
