Renowned Ghent artist Berlinde De Bruyckere will have her first solo exhibition at the Palace for Fine Arts Bozar in Brussels, showcasing a selection of 25 years of her work.
The exhibition, titled ‘Khorós’, will be open from Friday 21 February to Sunday 31 August.
This is the first time De Bruyckere’s work will be on display in the Belgian capital, a highly anticipated debut.
The artist will present a range of her most significant works from the past 25 years, spread over 1,000 square metres of exhibition space.
The selection includes both monumental sculptures and installations, as well as smaller works on paper or photo.
Photographs, videos, and audio fragments feature dialogues with fellow artists Patti Smith, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Lucas Cranach.
At the core of her work, and this new Brussels exhibition, is the ‘condition humaine’ – highlighting human vulnerability and the dualities of suffering and love, sorrow and comfort, life and death.

“The recurring horror and beauty that we, as humans, don’t understand but are a part of,” says the artist. “My work always reflects how I view and question the world as both a human and an artist.”
In ‘Khorós’, De Bruyckere engages in dialogue with fellow artists and ‘companions on her journey’.
The term ‘Khorós’ refers to the groups of singers and dancers in ancient Greek tragedies.
Running until 31 August, ‘Khorós’ is the first edition of the Bozar-Conversation Pieces, a new series where Bozar invites an artist to dialogue with their own oeuvre and other artists.
