Starting today, the tax return for the 2022 assessment year can be filed online via Tax-on-Web, and it contains several striking novelties, including the fact that the form is gender-neutral from now on.
While in the past, the man in a legally cohabiting or married couple of a different sex was automatically placed in the first column and the woman in the second, will now be the eldest of the two who will be put first. This means the declaration will become gender-neutral from this year on.
The tax authorities, however, will be flexible if people make a mistake in this context.
Another novelty is that simple declarations via an accountant will now be submitted by 15 July instead of October – the same date as for those who complete their own declaration via Tax-on-Web. When filing on paper, everyone must submit their return by 30 June at the latest, whether they use an accountant or not.
Only for self-employed income or foreign professional income, a postponement until mid-October applies, which will be granted automatically.
Just like last year, taxpayers can also ask for help to complete their tax return, either directly via the Federal Public Service for Finance by appointment, or through the municipality where they reside. So far, 85,000 appointments have been proactively recorded with people who sought help last year.
