A total of 8,122 Dodentocht participants had crossed the finish line of the 100km race by the closing time at 21:30 on Saturday. In all, 11,613 people had attempted the challenge, organisers stated.

“We’re ending the event on a high,” commented spokeswoman Ilse Robyn. With a success rate of 69%, the edition remains within the norm compared to previous occasions. “If the weather had been a little drier, these figures might have been different”.

Of all the walkers who completed the feat on time, 65% were men, and 35% were women, with the final percentages unknown.

There were a number of drop-outs, most notably the eldest and youngest of the event. Finn, aged 15, dropped out after 52 kilometres of walking, while Hendrik Dupont, aged 94, gave up the challenge after 60 kilometres.
