A Flixbus bound for Brussels was stopped by police in East Flanders on Thursday, as a passenger "with terrorist motives" is believed to be on board.

Police in East Flanders stopped a bus travelling from Lille in France to the Belgian capital because one of the passengers was suspected of having "terrorist motives", Het Nieuwsblad reported. A male passenger alerted the police after hearing others on the bus talking about committing an attack.

The passenger's call was immediately taken seriously and major resources were deployed.

The vehicle was stopped on the motorway on Thursday morning and diverted by traffic police to Wetteren, near the police station. A security perimeter was set up and the bus was under police surveillance by a large number of officers while the special units were on their way.

All 46 occupants were taken off the bus one by one with their hands in the air. The bus is still being examined by an explosives dog and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Destruction Service (DOVO) are also at the scene, but for now, nothing suspicious has been found. Three people have since been arrested and will be questioned, while the bus is being checked.
