Police are calling on taxi drivers who can testify in a rape case dating back to the summer of 2023 to come forward. A young woman was picked up in Brussels by a taxi driver who later brutally raped her.

The Federal Police on Monday published a request for witnesses at the request of the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office. It relates to an incident involving an 18-year-old woman that occurred on Friday 8 August 2023.

"After the concert by the group ‘Rammstein’ [at the King Baudouin Stadium], the victim got into a taxi parked on the Surlet de Chokier square in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, near the Madou metro station," the police statement read. "The driver took the victim to a remote location and brutally raped her."

According to police, the suspect is about 35 years old and 1.85 metres tall. He is "heavily built" and has a white complexion and dark blond curly hair. He drives a taxi with a red or dark orange light board.

The Federal Police is specifically looking for taxi drivers who were stationed near Madou and who saw a young woman wearing a T-shirt of the band ‘Rammstein’ get into the taxi parked in front of them.

"Taxi companies operating in Brussels are also being asked to check whether a taxi driver was on duty on the evening of 4 August 2023 and matching the suspect's description," the police noted.
