A fire broke out on the roof of a house in Saint-Gilles on Thursday evening, according to the Brussels Fire Brigade.

Brussels Fire Brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw explained that roofing work had been carried out at the house on Rue de Savoie earlier in the day.

At around 22:45 a fire started in the gutter, spreading to the roof. Fortunately, the contractors scaffolding was still in place, enabling firefighters to easily access the source of the fire. To completely extinguish the flames, part of the roof was dismantled. Debris collapsed onto the staircase from the roof, rendering it unusable until cleared.

The roof suffered significant damage. However, there were no injuries as smoke detectors in the house alerted residents who were able to vacate the premises and reach safety.
