Belgian athlete Nafi Thiam will have the honour of carrying Belgium's flag during the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Sunday evening, the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (BOIC) announced.
On Friday night at the Stade de France, Thiam made history with a third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the heptathlon. She did so as the first athlete ever in the all-around. Thiam is also only the second woman to take gold in athletics in three Games in a row.
She was also the flag bearer at the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
The closing ceremony at the Stade de France will start at 21:00 with the flag parade, followed by the entrance of the Olympic athletes. All Team Belgium athletes were invited to descend on Paris for the closing ceremony. It is expected that 120 Belgian athletes will participate.
