On Monday, the navy and police intercepted almost 210 kg of pure cocaine in the North Sea, the Bruges division of the West Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Wednesday.

An investigation was opened following the discovery. The Federal Judicial Police (PJF) was accompanied by a coastal patrol from the Navy during the action on Monday 9 October.

In the Belgian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the North Sea, they found no less than 210 kilos of pure cocaine floating in the water, with a retail value of around €11.5 million.

The PJF, in collaboration with the maritime police, launched an investigation into the discovery.

The coastal patrol vessels Castor and Pollux regularly carry out surveillance missions in the North Sea, in collaboration with the federal police and customs.

In addition to these State security missions, they are also deployed for fisheries control, the fight against maritime pollution and during rescue operations at sea.
